Structure and schedule
15 one-on-one mentor sessions plus 2 sessions with a publication expert · around 15 weeks of work, plus 1–4 months of publication support · fully online.

Grades 9–12 with Python basics, or who have completed AI Scholars.

Month 1 · Exploration
Explore the field and build the skills your chosen problem needs

Scope your question and explore the data with your mentor.

Months 3–4 · Execution
Build, train and troubleshoot your model, then present it to peers.

Submit to a journal or competition and showcase the work publicly.

PhD researchers at the institutions defining modern AI — and practitioners at the labs and companies building it. On this track you work 1-on-1 throughout.
College credit eligibility
Students who successfully complete a high school program are eligible for post-baccalaureate credit through University of California, San Diego Extended Studies.

Students in grades 9–12 with Python basics, or who have completed AI Scholars.

All sessions are online via Zoom. Students join from anywhere.

AI Scholars is group-based and teaches the fundamentals. The AI Fellowship is 1-on-1 and independent — you scope and build your own project, with publication support to get it submitted.

Both are independent research projects. The AI Accelerator is the more advanced track: 30 one-on-one sessions and 4 publication-expert sessions, aimed at college-level journals and national competitions.

Yes. Financial aid is need-based and available up to 100%, and you apply for it inside the application form — tick the box and you're considered automatically.
