1. Veritas AI

Eligibility: Open to high school students. AI Fellowship applicants should have completed the AI Scholars program or have prior AI and Python experience.


Founded by Harvard alumni, Veritas AI offers programs for high school students interested in artificial intelligence. In the AI Scholars program, you’ll collaborate with peers on real-world AI projects across industries like healthcare, finance, and education, gaining practical skills through problem-solving. The AI Fellowship provides one-on-one mentorship from PhD experts, guiding you through intensive AI research. You’ll explore AI’s impact in areas like finance, healthcare, and gaming, with opportunities to publish or present your work.

2. Carnegie Mellon University AI Scholars

Carnegie Mellon University's AI Scholars program offers high school students a hands-on, immersive introduction to the world of artificial intelligence. This selective, merit-based program is fully grant-funded and emphasizes real-world AI problem-solving. With a cohort of approximately 30 students, the program creates a collaborative learning environment that fosters deep engagement and creativity.

You will gain hands-on experience through group projects, exposure to cutting-edge research, and preparation for both college academics and career opportunities in AI. There are no out-of-pocket tuition fees, though financial documentation is required as part of the application process.

3. MIT’s Day of AI

MIT’s Day of AI, hosted by the Media Lab, is a free annual event for K-12 students to explore artificial intelligence and its real-world applications. Through a combination of curriculum and hands-on activities, participants will learn the fundamentals of AI, its potential benefits and risks, and how to create using AI technology. 4. Princeton AI4ALL

Princeton AI4ALL is a selective, three-week summer program for high school students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, interested in artificial intelligence and machine learning. With a small cohort of about 30 students, you will engage in hands-on learning, addressing real-world problems and using AI tools to create solutions.

The program’s curriculum emphasizes both the technical skills needed for AI systems and the social and ethical issues related to AI technology.

Location: Princeton campus
Application Deadline: Mid-March 2024
Program Dates: July 14th - August 3rd, 2024, 2025 dates TBA
Eligibility:

  • Must be in 10th grade at the time of application and transitioning to 11th grade in Fall 2024.

  • Must reside in the United States or Puerto Rico

  • Must meet at least one of the following socioeconomic conditions:

    • Combined household income does not exceed $60,000.

    • Eligible for free or reduced-price lunch at school.

    • Eligible for an SAT or ACT fee waiver.

5. Google AI For Everyone

Google’s AI for Everyone course is designed for students new to AI and interested in its real-world applications. This self-paced, online course takes about a month to complete, making it a flexible option for students.

You will cover foundational AI topics like ethics, neural networks, and machine learning. The course can be completed independently or as part of Google’s Machine Learning Certificate Program, which offers a certificate upon completion.

6. AI & Health Summer High School Boot Camp

The AI & Health Summer Boot Camp is a one-week, hands-on program for high school students interested in AI and its application in healthcare. You will participate in daily lectures by MIT faculty, complete a healthcare-focused AI project in groups, and visit leading research organizations. At the end of the program, you'll present your project. While the program is free, you are responsible for transportation and housing as it is non-residential.

7. NYU’s ARISE Program

NYU’s ARISE program offers high school students the chance to explore STEM research with a focus on machine learning (ML), a key area of artificial intelligence (AI).
