Ladder Internships is a selective start-up internship program for ambitious high school students! In the program, you work with a high-growth start-up on an internship. Start-ups that offer internships range across a variety of industries from tech/deep tech, AI/ML to health tech, marketing, journalism, consulting, and more. You can explore all the options here on their application form. Ladder’s start-ups are high-growth companies on average raising over a million dollars. Past founders have included YCombinator alumni, founders raising over 30 million dollars, or founders who previously worked at Microsoft, Google, and Facebook. In the program, interns work closely with their managers and a Ladder Coach on real-world projects and present their work to the company. Here is the application form.
Interns are offered one-on-one training in communication, time management and other such valuable skills and will also have the opportunity to attend group training sessions with other interns in their cohort. The virtual internship is usually 8 weeks long.

2. Simons Summer Research Program
In this program, you will be paired directly alongside a faculty member to aid them in a research project that they are heading. You'll become part of an active research team, gaining firsthand experience with the techniques and tools used by scientists and engineers in the laboratory.
The apprenticeship culminates in a written research abstract and a research poster where each Fellow presents their work to an audience. Additionally, you will also have the chance to participate in weekly seminars and workshops led by leading researchers, as well as guided laboratory tours at the Stony Brook campus!
Location: Stony Brook University, New York.
Cost/Stipend: The program is free of cost. Participants must arrange their own transportation/dining costs (commuters) and/or residential costs (if staying on campus). Students are awarded a stipend at the end-of-program symposium.

3. Cyber Security for Computer Science (CS4CS)
Cyber Security for Computer Science (CS4CS) is a unique summer program designed specifically for high school students, regardless of any prior coding experience. Over three weeks, CS4CS introduces you to the exciting world of cybersecurity and data science through a rigorous, highly selective (acceptance rate of 10%) on-campus program.
The program explores core cybersecurity topics like cryptography, white-hat tracking, privacy, stenography, digital forensics, and data usage. You will also be exposed to technologies that are typically used to detect and prevent cyber crimes such as phishing attacks, how to trace threats back to their source, and other topics that are pertinent to the current world of cybersecurity.

4. American Collegiate Adventures Internship Program

5. The Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging’s Summer Research Internship
The Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI) Summer Internship offers this unique opportunity for tech-savvy high school students in New York. In this two-week virtual program, you’ll be tackling real-world challenges alongside experts in AI and medicine. 6. Applied Research In Science and Engineering (ARISE) Program
The Applied Research Innovations in Science and Engineering (ARISE) program at NYU Tandon School of Engineering offers bright high school students an exciting seven-week deep dive into the world of scientific exploration. In this internship, you will not just be learning about science, but actively contributing to it alongside professors and graduate students in an actual NYU research lab!
The internship is divided into two parts. It begins with a two-week bootcamp designed to introduce interns to the world of scientific exploration through workshops on areas such as scientific ethics, research practices, lab safety, etc. The second part is an intensive five-week research program where you will participate in ongoing research projects at the NYU laboratories across the subjects of engineering, life sciences, and computer and data sciences.

With a focus on empowering the bright, unprivileged high school students of New York, the CUNY STEM Research Academy offers a unique, two semester-long window into the exciting world of scientific inquiry. This program is a two-semester experience that takes you beyond your classroom walls. The spring semester focuses on building a strong foundation in essential literacy and numeracy skills through various activities, tackling essential skills like formulating research questions, designing experiments, and analyzing scientific data.
Students that complete this course can then participate in a six-week, summer research internship alongside leading CUNY research faculty on ongoing projects and gain actual research skills. This research program not only covers the cost of tuition and books, but also provides students with meal vouchers, a Metrocard and a $1000 stipend upon completion of the internship..

8. 2024 NYSCF Summer Internship - Data Science Track
Hosted by the leading nonprofit New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) with an aim to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine through stem cell research, this internship is a 10-week summer experience for high school students interested in data science.
As an intern on the Data Science track, you will work alongside biologists, automation specialists, and engineers at the NYSCF Research Institute on a research project building customized tools to analyze and interpret large amounts of biological data.
Location: NYSCF Research Institute, New York City.
Cost/Stipend: Free of cost, interns must cover their own housing costs. Interns are paid hourly, ranging from $18 to $20.

The AI Internship Program by Veritas AI is founded and run by Harvard graduate students. Through the 8-week internship, students have the opportunity to work with VC-backed startups on real-world AI/ML projects. Students work directly with mentors from Harvard, Wharton, Google, Microsoft, McKinsey & Company, and more.
This program is a great opportunity for students who have prior experience with AI/ML and are looking to gain real-world exposure to a career in the field.
