Ladder Internships is a virtual internship program designed for high school students eager to gain real-world experience by working with startups. This structured program matches you with startups that align with your interests and allows you to contribute to meaningful projects across various STEM fields, including Tech & Deep Tech, Machine Learning and AI, Software Engineering, Health Tech and Mental Health, and Environmental Science.

During the 8 to 12-week program, you’ll collaborate with both a startup manager and a Ladder Coach to guide your work. The program begins with defining project goals and deliverables, followed by regular check-ins to assess progress. Midway through, you’ll present your work for feedback, and the program culminates in a final presentation showcasing your project. The ARISE Program at NYU Tandon School of Engineering offers high school students an immersive 10-week experience in applied research. You will be placed as an intern in NYU faculty labs and receive mentorship from graduate or postdoctoral students. 

The program begins with 4 weeks of remote, after-school workshops in June, covering essential topics such as data analysis, lab safety, scientific ethics, and college application preparation. These sessions are designed to equip you with the foundational skills necessary for success in both the program and future academic endeavors. Following the workshops, you'll participate in six weeks of full-time, in-person research. At the end of the program, you will present your research findings at a concluding colloquium.

The program also provides opportunities to explore AI and Machine Learning through labs like the Machine Learning for Good Laboratory and the Immersive Computing Lab. You will gain hands-on experience in how AI can improve areas such as criminal justice, public health, and urban life.

12. Futures and Options Internship Program

Location: New York City

Cost: $15 per hour stipend

Eligibility: Must be a current 11th- or 12th-grade student, 16 or older, and reside in New York City

The Futures and Options Internship Program provides high school students in New York City with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with a variety of business partners, with a focus on AI and business technologies. As an intern, you will be paired with companies based on your skills and interests and receive training in essential professional skills, such as communication, resume writing, interviewing, and financial literacy.

Summer interns are expected to work 20-30 hours per week, while after-school interns work 5-10 hours per week. You will also receive paid opportunities, earning at least $15 an hour while developing practical business experience in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics.
