The AI Internship Program by Veritas AI is founded and run by Harvard graduate students. Through the 8-week internship, students have the opportunity to work with VC-backed startups on real-world AI/ML projects. Students work directly with mentors from Harvard, Wharton, Google, Microsoft, McKinsey & Company, and more.

This program is a great opportunity for students who have prior experience with AI/ML and are looking to gain real-world exposure to a career in the field. Students get a chance to network with industry professionals, work closely with company leadership, and receive a letter of completion from the company at the end of the internship. 2. Beaver Works Summer Institute, MIT

Location: MIT campus, Cambridge, MA (with some virtual courses)

Cost: Free

Application Deadline: Applications typically close in March.

Dates: Tentatively July 2025, with specific dates announced closer to spring. Virtual courses are open for interested students till November.

Eligibility: High school students in grades 9-11 who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must also have completed the online prerequisite courses.

Hosted by MIT Lincoln Laboratory and MIT’s School of Engineering, the Beaver Works Summer Institute (BWSI) is a cutting-edge STEM program for high school students. Through hands-on, project-based activities, participants engage with real-world challenges in fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity.

Program Structure:

  • Online Prerequisites: Before the summer program, you'll complete online courses covering essential topics such as Python programming and the Robot Operating System (ROS). These courses ensure you have the foundational knowledge required for the intensive on-campus projects.

  • On-Campus Projects: Once on campus, you'll engage in projects like autonomous air vehicle racing and cognitive systems development. These projects allow you to apply artificial intelligence to create intelligent, problem-solving systems, culminating in a competition that challenges your technical skills and fosters creativity.

One of the offered courses is the Serious Games Development with Artificial Intelligence (SGAI) course, where you combine AI and game design to create “Serious Games” simulating real-world issues like pandemic control or self-driving car dilemmas. Teams modify and program these games to investigate unique research questions while exploring how AI resolves complex ethical challenges. 

3. Ladder Internship Program

Eligibility: Students who can work for 10-20 hours/week, for 8-12 weeks. Open to high school students, undergraduates, and gap year students!

Ladder Internships is a selective start-up internship program for ambitious high school students! In the program, you work with a high-growth start-up on an internship. Start-ups that offer internships range across a variety of industries from tech/deep tech, and AI/ML to health tech, marketing, journalism, consulting, and more.  You can explore all the options here on their application form. Ladder’s start-ups are high-growth companies on average raising over a million dollars. Past founders have included YCombinator alums, founders raising over 30 million dollars, or founders who previously worked at Microsoft, Google, and Facebook. In the program, interns work closely with their managers and a Ladder Coach on real-world projects and present their work to the company. Here is the application form

Interns are offered one-on-one training in communication, time management, and other such valuable skills and will also have the opportunity to attend group training sessions with other interns in their cohort. The virtual internship is usually 8 weeks long.

4. Stanford AI4ALL

Stanford’s AI4ALL offers a three-week virtual immersion into Artificial Intelligence, combining lectures, research, and mentoring to explore AI's impact on real-world problems. During the program, students explore cutting-edge applications of AI in areas such as medicine, disaster response, and poverty alleviation. They engage in small-group research projects led by graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, focusing on the societal impacts of AI and how it can address pressing global issues.


In collaboration with researchers from the Stanford AI Lab, you’ll work on innovative projects, developing practical AI skills. Open to 9th-grade students, the program seeks participants with strong academics, a passion for STEM, and interests in problem-solving, mathematics, or community outreach. 

5. Stanford Pre-College Summer Institute - Artificial Intelligence

Stanford’s Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute offers a course on Artificial Intelligence (AI), introducing students to the core principles of intelligent systems. The curriculum covers modern AI techniques, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning, encouraging critical analysis of their strengths and limitations. You will also examine how bias infiltrates AI systems and explore ways to address these challenges.


Through this program, you’ll build a strong mathematical foundation by applying concepts from linear algebra, calculus, statistics, and optimization. Hands-on Python programming projects give you the chance to implement algorithms using educational and real-world datasets. By the end of the course, you will be equipped to create ethical and efficient AI solutions for pressing global issues.

6. Summer@Brown Online

Summer@Brown Online invites high school students to explore Brown University's Open Curriculum through flexible, interactive courses. With over 50 options available in asynchronous or blended formats, you engage in rigorous learning while connecting with a global peer network. The program also offers personalized feedback, workshops, and other engaging activities.


The AI, Data Science, and Machine Learning course in the program combines theory and practice, starting with AI fundamentals and advancing to complex machine learning techniques. Participants tackle projects that involve data analysis, predictive modeling, and real-world AI applications. 


Throughout the program, participants delve into college-level coursework and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Upon successful completion, students receive a Digital Certificate of Completion.

7. Columbia University Academic Year Weekend Program

The Academic Year Weekend Program by Columbia University offers high school students from grades 9–12 an immersive experience, featuring over 20 courses in a flexible virtual format across ten weekends. Stanford’s AIMI Summer Research Internship is a two-week virtual program for high school students interested in artificial intelligence’s impact on healthcare. Through lectures, group projects, and mentoring by Stanford researchers, participants gain insights into both technical and clinical aspects of AI applications in medicine.

Key topics covered in the program include foundational concepts and principles of Machine Learning as applied to healthcare, as well as methods for evaluating and assessing ML models in this field. Unlike the AIMI Bootcamp, which focuses on introductory technical skills for AI in medicine, this internship provides a more comprehensive exploration of AI's real-world applications, emphasizing research, health equity, and innovation in healthcare.

Purdue University offers a 5-day Machine Learning program for high school students to build foundational knowledge of machine learning using Python. The curriculum covers key topics like linear regression, image filtering, feature extraction, pattern recognition, and classification.
