1. NYU Tandon School of Engineering Summer Program


Cost: $3,000 base tuition, additional fees for housing and board

  • Session One: June 17 to 28

  • Session Two: July 8 to 19

  • Session Three: July 29 to August 9

Eligibility: High school students that are age 14+ the day program begins (minimum 15 years old for housing)


The NYU Tandon School of Engineering Summer Program provides high school students with an in-depth exploration of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Participants have the opportunity to learn from industry-leading experts and engage in hands-on projects that apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios.


As a key component of the program, students work collaboratively on a group project, culminating in a presentation at the program's conclusion. This final project allows students to demonstrate their innovative solutions to real-world problems using AI, showcasing their newly acquired skills and the significant impact of AI across various industries.



2. Veritas AI 


Cost: AI Scholars - $2290 (financial aid is available); AI Fellowship with Publication & Showcase - $5500; Combination (AI Scholars + AI Fellowship) - $6900

Program Dates: The fall cohort starts in September

Eligibility: High school students passionate about AI; Basic understanding of Python or completion of AI scholars is required for the AI Fellowship program


Veritas AI is founded and run by Harvard graduate students and our programs are geared towards high school students who want to build their foundations in computer science. In the program, students learn various concepts in data science and artificial intelligence like neural networks, image classification, natural language processing, sentiment analysis, coding using python, and more. 


Veritas AI offers up to 100% financial aid for the 10-week AI Scholars program. Through the program students build real-world, hands-on projects in groups of 3-5 students to showcase their interests and skills. You can also apply for the AI Fellowship with Publication & Showcase Prorgram where you work 1-1 with mentors from top universities to build unique machine learning projects over a period of 12-15 weeks. These programs are a great option for you if you like engaging in hands-on learning and are a beginner! 



3. NYU Applied Research Innovations in Science and Engineering


Cost: Free

Application Deadline: March 6 (tentatively, based on previous years)

Program Dates: June 3 to August 9 (tentatively, based on previous years)

Eligibility: Students living in New York City completing 10th or 11th grade in June 2024


The NYU Applied Research Innovations in Science and Engineering (ARISE) program provides high school students with an exceptional opportunity to participate in genuine scientific research. This 10-week summer program kicks off with four weeks of remote after-school workshops, transitioning into six weeks of in-person research from Monday to Friday. Students are immersed in various interdisciplinary STEM fields, including bio and molecular engineering, chemical engineering, robotics, computer science, AI, and machine learning, through hands-on projects in NYU's research labs.


The program places a strong emphasis on supporting students from underrepresented groups in STEM, such as women, students of color, and those from low-income backgrounds. Beyond scientific exploration, the program also focuses on developing presentation and public speaking skills, culminating in a colloquium where participants present their research findings to an audience that includes NYU faculty, graduate students, and peers.

4. Lumiere Research Scholars Program - ML/AI Track


Cost: Lumiere Individual Research Program – $2,800; Lumiere Premium Research and Publication Program – $4,800; Lumiere Research Fellowship – $8,400

Eligibility: High school students 


The Lumiere Research Scholars Program is a distinctive initiative that pairs high school students with PhD mentors for a one-on-one independent research project. Over 12 weeks, students delve deep into their chosen fields, culminating in the development of an independent research paper, providing them with a substantial learning experience and a significant achievement for their academic and professional portfolios​.


This program is structured to include 9 individual sessions with a researcher, 2 sessions with a writing coach, and participation in 5 workshops focused on the research process. It's designed for students who are eager to learn about the cutting edge of their field and are committed to producing a significant piece of research work. The Lumiere Research Scholars Program offers a variety of research topics (including machine learning and AI!) and allows students the flexibility to customize their own research topic if desired.

5. Horizon Academic Research Program

Location: Virtual 

Application Date: May 21, 2024 for the summer cohort, and September 25, 2024 for the fall cohort 

Program Dates: 

  • Summer seminar - June 24, 2024 - September 2, 2024

  • Fall seminar - October 23, 2024 - February 19, 2025

  • Lab dates are flexible, but you must apply 4 weeks in advance.

Eligibility: High school students with good academic standing (>3.67/4.0 GPA) can apply. Most accepted students are 10th/11th graders! Only a couple of tracks require formal prerequisites, more details of which can be found here.


Horizon offers trimester-long research programs for high school students across subject areas such as data science, machine learning, political theory, biology, chemistry, neuroscience, psychology, and more! It is one of the very few research programs for high school students that offers a choice between quantitative and qualitative research! 


Once you select a particular subject track and type of research you’ll be paired with a professor or Ph.D. scholar (from a top university) who will mentor you throughout your research journey. You’ll work to create a 20-page, university-level research paper that you can send to prestigious journals for publication as a high school student.

6. NYU Tandon's Summer Program for Machine Learning

Program Dates: 2 weeks through June - August

Eligibility: High school students currently enrolled in grades 9, 10, or 11 who have successfully complete Algebra 2 (or equivalent) and have some computer programming experience (in any language)


NYU Tandon's Summer Program for Machine Learning provides high school students with an intensive introduction to machine learning and artificial intelligence. Spanning two weeks, the program pairs students with leading researchers, engaging them in personalized sessions and workshops. These activities guide students through the process of producing a college-level academic paper or preparing work for publication in high-level journals.

7. Stony Brook University Computer Science and Informatics Summer Pre-College Program -- Machine Learning


Cost: $2,200; scholarship opportunities available

Application Deadline: May 15 (tentatively, based on previous years)

Program Dates: July 21 to 26 (tentatively, based on previous years)

Eligibility: Rising junior or senior who is in good academic standing


The Stony Brook University Computer Science and Informatics Summer Pre-College Program in Machine Learning and Self-Driving offers high school students an immersive experience in the core principles and practical applications of machine learning. Over the course of this week-long program, participants delve into self-driving technologies, machine learning algorithms, neural network structures, and data analysis methods through a combination of lectures and hands-on interactive exercises with a custom-built remote control vehicle.


This program aims to ignite students' enthusiasm for STEM, especially in the realm of machine learning, by providing practical, experiential learning opportunities.
