1. Ladder Internships


Ladder Internships is a selective start-up internship program for ambitious high school students! In the program, you work with a high-growth start-up on an internship. Start-ups that offer internships range across a variety of industries from tech/deep tech, AI/ML to health tech, marketing, journalism, consulting, and more.  You can explore all the options here on their application form. Ladder’s start-ups are high-growth companies on average raising over a million dollars. Past founders have included YCombinator alumni, founders raising over 30 million dollars, or founders who previously worked at Microsoft, Google, and Facebook. In the program, interns work closely with their managers and a Ladder Coach on real-world projects and present their work to the company. Here is the application form

Interns are offered one-on-one training in communication, time management and other such valuable skills and will also have the opportunity to attend group training sessions with other interns in their cohort. The virtual internship is usually 8 weeks long.

Cost: $1990 (Financial Aid Available)

Location:  Remote! You can work from anywhere in the world.

Program dates: Multiple cohorts throughout the year

Eligibility: Students who can work for 10-20 hours/week, for 8-12 weeks. Open to high school students, undergraduates and gap year students!


2. Simons Summer Research Program


In this program, you will be paired directly alongside a faculty member to aid them in a research project that they are heading. You'll become part of an active research team, gaining firsthand experience with the techniques and tools used by scientists and engineers in the laboratory. 

The apprenticeship culminates in a written research abstract and a research poster where each Fellow presents their work to an audience. Additionally, you will also have the chance to participate in weekly seminars and workshops led by leading researchers, as well as guided laboratory tours at the Stony Brook campus! 

Location: Stony Brook University, New York.

Cost/Stipend: The program is free of cost. Participants must arrange their own transportation/dining costs (commuters) and/or residential costs (if staying on campus). Students are awarded a stipend at the end-of-program symposium.

Program dates: July 1 - August 9, 2025 (tentatively, based on previous year’s dates) 

Application deadline: Applications typically close in February.

Eligibility: Applicants must currently be in their junior year of high school at the time of applying, must be US citizens and/or permanent residents, and must be at least 16 years of age by the start of the program.


3. Cyber Security for Computer Science (CS4CS)

Cyber Security for Computer Science (CS4CS) is a unique summer program designed specifically for high school students, regardless of any prior coding experience. Over three weeks, CS4CS introduces you to the exciting world of cybersecurity and data science through a rigorous, highly selective (acceptance rate of 10%) on-campus program. 

The program explores core cybersecurity topics like cryptography, white-hat tracking, privacy, stenography, digital forensics, and data usage. You will also be exposed to technologies that are typically used to detect and prevent cyber crimes such as phishing attacks, how to trace threats back to their source, and other topics that are pertinent to the current world of cybersecurity.  

Location: NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering, Brooklyn, New York.

Cost/Stipend: Fully funded. 

Program dates: July 15 - August 9, 2025 (tentatively, based on the previous year’s dates) 

Application deadline: Applications typically close in April.

Eligibility: Applicants must be studying in 9th, 10th or 11th grade at the time of applying and must be residents of New York City or nearby areas such as Jersey City, Newark, or Hempstead.

4. American Collegiate Adventures Internship Program 

High school years can often feel like a stepping stone to "real-world" work, and the American Collegiate Adventures (ACA) Internship Program bridges that gap by offering high school students a chance to gain valuable experience in a professional setting. ACA carefully places students in an internship that aligns with their academic interests and career aspirations in the heart of New York city! 

Interns collaborate with mentors on various projects such as assisting a seasoned software developer on a complex project, developing a marketing plan at cutting-edge startup, developing a security code for a tech startup, or even contributing to a captivating legal case alongside experienced attorneys. This program goes beyond textbook learning, where you will actively contribute to a real business, gaining practical skills that traditional education cannot replicate.

Location: New York or Boston.

Cost/Stipend: $150 application fee. Program fee ranges from $1,995 to $6,495 depending on industry and placement.

Program dates: 4 weeks in June or July.

Application deadline: Applications are typically accepted till February.

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 by the summer of 2024.


5. The Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging’s Summer Research Internship

The Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI)  Summer Internship offers this unique opportunity for tech-savvy high school students in New York. In this two-week virtual program, you’ll be tackling real-world challenges alongside experts in AI and medicine. From analyzing medical scans with AI algorithms to developing tools that could revolutionize disease diagnosis, this program aims to immerse  students into the technical and clinical aspects of AI in healthcare.

But that’s not all - the AIMI internship goes beyond simply the technical aspects of AI and medicine. It also provides a mentorship opportunity with Stanford Student leads and researchers, as well as career development sessions and virtual lunch talks with leading figures in the field. holistic approach allows you to explore the diverse career paths at the intersection of AI and medicine.

Eligibility: Applicants must be high school students (9th grade through 12th grade in Fall 2025); must be over the age of 14 at the start of the program, and must be U.S. residents.


6. Applied Research In Science and Engineering (ARISE) Program

The Applied Research Innovations in Science and Engineering (ARISE) program at NYU Tandon School of Engineering offers bright high school students an exciting seven-week deep dive into the world of scientific exploration. In this internship, you will not just be learning about science, but actively contributing to it alongside professors and graduate students in an actual NYU research lab!

The internship is divided into two parts. It begins with a two-week bootcamp designed to introduce interns to the world of scientific exploration through workshops on areas such as scientific ethics, research practices, lab safety, etc. The second part is an intensive five-week research program where you will participate in ongoing research projects at the NYU laboratories across the subjects of engineering, life sciences, and computer and data sciences.

7. Standout Connect


StandOut Connect bridges that gap by offering a unique internship experience designed specifically for high school students interested in getting their hands dirty before they fully step into the professional world. This internship program meticulously matches interns with exciting startups founded within the entrepreneurial ecosystems of top universities such as Harvard and Yale, as well as leading accelerators like Y Combinator. 

As an intern, you will first be immersed in a month of interactive workshops and homework aimed at preparing students for college admissions as well as the oncoming recruitment interview. The actual internships begins after interns are places in various startups in the ecosystem - whether it's coding alongside software developers or exploring the legal world with practicing attorneys. 

Location: Virtual.

Cost/Stipend: $2,950. Need-based scholarships are available.

Program dates: June 2 - 30, 2025 (professional training), July 1 - August 30, 2025 (virtual internship). Dates are tentative and based on the previous year’s dates.

Eligibility: Applicants must be 15 or older by June 2024; international students must be fluent in English and willing to adapt to a U.S. time zone. 



8. CUNY STEM Research Academy 

With a focus on empowering the bright, unprivileged high school students of New York, the CUNY STEM Research Academy offers a unique, two semester-long window into the exciting world of scientific inquiry. This program is a two-semester experience that takes you beyond your classroom walls. The spring semester focuses on building a strong foundation in essential literacy and numeracy skills through various activities, tackling essential skills like formulating research questions, designing experiments, and analyzing scientific data.

Students that complete this course can then participate in a six-week, summer research internship alongside leading CUNY research faculty on ongoing projects and gain actual research skills. This research program not only covers the cost of tuition and books, but also provides students with meal vouchers, a Metrocard and a $1000 stipend upon completion of the internship..

Location: Brooklyn, New York.

Cost/Stipend: Fully funded. Participants are awarded with a stipend at the completion of the internship.

Program dates: February 17 - June 1, 2025 (research course), June 27 - August 15, 2025  (research internship). Dates are tentative and based on the previous year’s dates. 

Application deadline: Applications typically close in December.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a sophomore or junior in a NYC public high school.

9. 2024 NYSCF Summer Internship - Data Science Track

Hosted by the leading nonprofit New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) with an aim to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine through stem cell research, this internship is a 10-week summer experience for high school students interested in data science. 

As an intern on the Data Science track, you will work alongside biologists, automation specialists, and engineers at the NYSCF Research Institute on a research project building customized tools to analyze and interpret large amounts of biological data. 

Location: NYSCF Research Institute, New York City. 

Cost/Stipend: Free of cost, interns must cover their own housing costs. Interns are paid hourly, ranging from $18 to $20.

Program dates: June 3, 2024 – August 9, 2025 (tentatively, based on the previous year’s dates) 

Application deadline: Applications typically close in January.

Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited institution; must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of applying or a foreign applicant with necessary documentation as required by U.S. Immigration, and be 18 years or older at the start of the internship.


10. NASA Internships

With a view to further their mission of advancing science, technology, and space exploration, NASA offers various internships across the country to bright high school students interested in a career in the STEM sciences. The NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) internships offer high school students the opportunity to work alongside leading engineers and scientists at either a NASA facility or even remotely, depending on the internship.
